Sengataki hot spring is located slightly up the mountain from the main road in Karuizawa. It may feel like an inconvenient location for some, but it is a popular hot spring for tourists and many locals.
Welcomed by the friendly workers, you will receive a small paper card when you pay. You can write your name on this card, and slide it into the door of your locker. It is fun to think of nicknames to write on your cards, to make it easier to spot your locker.
Once you enter the bathing area, there are small stalls with a shower, chair, shampoo and soap so you can wash off before entering the bath. Straight ahead from the the stalls, there is a big indoor bath, and a door that leads to the outside baths. The outside bath on the bottom is more of a circular shape, and is surrounded by rocks and plants, making you feel relaxed in the nature. The bath above has a wooden roof, and is a rectangular shape. If you turn right of the bathing stalls, there is a cold water bath and a sauna.
The best part about the Sengataki hot spring is the quality of the water. You notice your skin being softer straight after you soak in the bath. Eating ice cream and getting on the massage chairs after you get out of the bath is what also makes the experience an excellent one.
